Village of Peotone recognized by Government Finance Officers Association (GOFA) for 4th time for Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The Village of Peotone is proud to announce that it has again received the Government Finance Officers
Association’s (GOFA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its FY 26 budget document. The award is a significant achievement and reflects Peotone’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. This is the fourth straight year that Peotone has received this recognition.

“This award is a testament to the work that the elected officials, department heads, and other staff have put into this process. I especially want to thank our Financial Director Annmarie Mampe and financial analyst Diane Nielson for all their work on the Village’s finances,” said Village Administrator Nick Palmer. “Peotone has been committed to transparency and solid budget processes for many years, but this is an acknowledgement that we continue to follow best practices and strive for strong financial stability for the Village.”

GOFA notes that this award reflects the commitment by the Village of Peotone to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the Village budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communication device

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“I am proud of the Village of Peotone staff and appreciate the recognition of our budget process,” said Mayor Chris Vieaux. “With this recognition we applaud the past efforts and will continue to make even more improvements to the process in the future. Thank you to all the Trustees and staff who put in many hours to keep our budget process on track.”

The FY2026 Budget was developed to be consistent with current Village policies and provides for a balance between providing exceptional services to our residents and remaining fiscally responsible with ample financial reserves. Moving forward, the Village will continue to review its organizational structure and operations to identify opportunities for improvement to provide services to residents and businesses effectively and efficiently.
